This podcast began during the CCDE Interrupting Privilege Podcasting Workshop during the summer of 2021. Several students and community members came together to learn how to tell stories using the podcasting medium. Two graduate students – Meshell Sturgis and Thomas Locke – turned their podcast into a three-part series. The first two episodes of that series entitled “To Stir the Pot or Keep the Peace” are available now.
In this second episode, Sturgis and Locke “discuss how life in Seattle has affected their daily lives.” They draw on their readings, experiences, and identities throughout their discussion to reflect on the different spaces they live through such as their homes, cities, classrooms, and even designed affinity groups.
It is difficult to find the right way and time to speak out against racism and sexism. For example, being a Black grad is a vulnerable position especially when deciding to speak out against a senior faculty member. When your paycheck is on the line sometimes it seems easier to get in line than to resist
