This podcast began during the CCDE Interrupting Privilege Podcasting Workshop during the summer of 2021. Several students and community members came together to learn how to tell stories using the podcasting medium.
In this podcast, two Black scholars discuss the n-word and what it means to code-switch. They describe their different experiences with the n-word growing up or in school and whether they’ve decided to use it or not. They observe how in pop culture the word is used frequently and has made it seem like everyone is allowed to say it. Neither of them think it is acceptable. Their conversation also leads to the topic of code switching which is where these two scholars differ and share different experiences. Where one of them doesn’t code-switch, the other does and they both negotiate their Selves in different ways.
I sound the way I am and I don’t think I ever want to change how I sound to make someone more comfortable
