In this clip, two Black students unpack a two-part question: who is responsible for interrupting privilege and when do you feel comfortable interrupting privilege? To the first half of the question, the student responds saying that in an ideal world everyone is able to interrupt privilege but in the real world the burden usually falls on the shoulders of people of color. To the second half of the question one of the students responds saying that there might never be a time when she feels comfortable, and she has to know 100% what she’s talking about. The other student voices her exhaustion about constantly having to interrupt privilege but her empowerment and energy comes from thinking about whose life is on the line and how she can advocate in different spaces.
I’m most empowered when I think about whose life is on the line.
