Listen as two Black Seattleites discuss the duality of Black Seattle. One of the dialogue partners describes how their children left Seattle and didn’t come back (one of them cited the lack of Black people in Seattle as the reason they didn’t want to return). The other dialogue partner reflects on how education is the driving force that brings Black students and young people back to Seattle Central District. She describes the duality of where she grew up where, on the one hand, there is violence and drugs and gangs and, on the other hand, there is gentrification. As a story teller, she is interested in capturing all the pieces of this duality in order to blaze trails for the future of Black Seattle.
I am a storyteller, and I feel like history is a great way to tell stories.
