Nothing Happens to Them… It Has to Be a Structural and Institutional Change

In this heart-rending and emotive clip, a Black woman shares the story of police violence and murder of her brother and nephew. In the beginning of the clip, we hear police sirens rush by, creating an eerie and unsettling juxtaposition. Watching Floyd’s murder on tv is re-traumatizing for this woman and her family because her own nephew was murdered the same way. It’s a reminder that policing is rarely held accountable (unless caught on camera) and the institution maintains their violence.

Every time a George Floyd or Breonna Taylor or whomever is showed up, it re-traumatized me. So that has been a really big stressor.
