Impact of George Floyd’s Murder on a Black Man Officer

In this clip, listen as a Black man shares with a Black woman police officer on the missed opportunity to see how race and social justice initiatives failed in the police department. He reflects on how he thought George Floyd’s murder might open the opportunity for leadership in Seattle specifically to reevaluate initiatives, their efficacy, and how institutional racism impacts the city systems. Instead, he observes how the defunding of the police rhetoric took over and seemed to divert conversations. His positionality provides him with a unique perspective and approach to policing and its potential.
