In this audio, two Black police officers dialogue about the political atmosphere and how it impacts their work currently. They are both experiencing different transitions in terms of how they interact with community partners (especially those that distanced themselves during the protests for racial justice) and how they communicate internally as well. For one of the officers, she was recently promoted from the sergeant position to the lieutenant position, meaning she is experiencing a lot of changes in her work and who she supervises.
It’s been hard because a lot of those groups have made decisions to step away from us for political reasons but slowly things, the pendulum, is starting to swing back the other way and we’re able to start to interact with a lot of our partners that have stepped away
