He recalls how the school celebrated Thanksgiving in a way that perpetuated erasures and promoted Thanksgiving as a simple celebration between pilgrims and Native Americans. The lack of honest discussion and misrepresentation of history led them to pull their oldest child from school and homeschool them to “re-educate” them and help them unlearn what had been taught.
