Listen as two UW doctors and scientists commiserate over the exhaustion they feel and not having a sense for when they will be able to take a break. Because they were so heavily involved in identifying COVID-19, studying it, tracking it, and developing a vaccine, they are rightfully exhausted from the incredible amount of labor they had to put in during the pandemic. They commiserate over the fact that they felt like they still couldn’t stop because they had to harness this moment to get the most funding they could to keep studying and providing as much as they could to academia and the public.
In academia you have to leverage every dollar and every chance at a dollar. I feel like we have to really take advantage of the interest to grab those grant dollars which is definitely going to delay any break or sabbatical that might’ve been available.
