Discipline and Differential Treatment

Listen to these parents and students reflect on their experiences with differential treatment and discipline based on race in school. One student recalled how her teacher tends to prioritize helping other white students before her even though she asked a question first. A parent describes how her child was often in trouble for misbehaving while other white students didn’t get in trouble for the same behaviors. Throughout this entire series of clips, students and parents describe instances of bullying and mistreatment and disproportionate discipline toward students of color.
