Listen as two graduate students describe their different approaches regarding boundaries and what they look like for different spaces. One student commented on her anxieties regarding boundaries with online school and the invasive nature of Zoom. She strategically chooses her background and what will appear on camera so as to draw boundaries between her private home life and her school life.
I feel like I’m being forced to let the world into my home and my happy space and my peace of mind space.
The other student discusses boundaries in the context of family and friends and how those lines have been negotiated and renegotiated throughout the pandemic. Especially because she was living in Texas the majority of the pandemic, opportunities arose for conversations about the #BLM movement that made boundaries take different shape.
When we were living in Texas there were much fewer boundaries but I think that’s because I kept erasing them and redrawing them, then erasing them and redrawing them.
