Animal Crossing and the Pandemic

Listen as staff members of the Resilience Lab discuss the different coping mechanisms they enacted during the pandemic to distract themselves from the stress of the pandemic and find connection. One staff member describes how they used the world-building video game, Animal Crossing, as an escape from reality. They reflect on the extent to which the game was helpful or harmful in different ways in the sense that it facilitated distraction but also unhealthy escapism.

Stories are a way in which we naturally seek connection or find connection. I think there’s a really fine line there between dissociating and being mindful.
