Why Can’t I Be Angry

In this audio, a Black woman shares the stress she experienced throughout her career being the only or token Black person in her workplaces. As a recent retiree, she reflects on the impact of these workplace spaces on her mental health. For a long time, her strategy was to stay silent and fly under the radar, but now she is finding her voice and making her frustration, exhaustion, and anger known.

No wonder work is so hard! It’s not the work itself it’s everything else… I’m really mad. I’m angry, and why can’t I be angry?
