In this clip, a Black woman shares how she constantly has to advocate for herself at her job. She has been gaslit by her coworkers into thinking she is bad at communicating when in reality she is simply doing her job and holding others accountable. She recounts an incident in which she met with two of her coworkers who wanted her to complete a project in a certain way and when she wouldn’t they began reprimanding her for speaking to them “disrespectfully.” After the incident, her supervisors and managers came to talk to her about the incident and encouraged her to give the other workers the benefit fo the doubt. She insisted that they tell her what she did or said wrong, and they couldn’t but her manager still only told her that she needed to work on her communication.
What about MY good intent? … Did they tell you what they said I did wrong? … Did you counsel them about the interaction?
