To set the scene, it was currently September 2016 and I begin my first year of college at the University of Washington. Walking to my first class gave me chills knowing that I was one of the few minorities who had the opportunity to participate in a space heavily dominated by whites. I attend all my classes and come home to my fraternity also dominated by whites to debrief my first day. I recall the numerous times I had to restate my name and even realized that I only had three other students of color in all of my classes…. Combined! All of this didn’t bother me but the question that always puzzled me that I get asked daily is: “where are you from?”…
