In this clip, listen to two students give advice to teachers about the importance of talking about race and how talking about race can help educate people. One student commented on how not talking about race could make students of color feel like their experiences don’t matter. Another student observes that embracing the discomfort and possibility of offending someone because it will ultimately lead to a useful dialogue that can correct racist behaviors or ideas. It’s worth the risk if it leads to making students of color feel seen and making sure a classroom dialogue involves open, honest communication. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s almost worth risking offending somebody if you’re at least talking about it because if they have a problem then you can talk to them and see how you can change it… but if you’re not talking about it at all there’s no chance to improve it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
