These immigrant activists come together to discuss the privileges and limits to citizenship. Often, even with citizenship, there are still several layers of discrimination and prejudices to hurdle that present challenges to equality. Ultimately, citizenship as a process is constantly in flux and achieving citizenship isn’t always the end-all-be-all solution. There are a lot of sacrifices associated with citizenship that are often hidden under the guise of “belonging” or “acceptance” or “The American Dream.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is citizenship really offering when it’s excluding our own identities in order to belong<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Yet, despite citizenship being used as a tool for division, these activists reflect on how it can also be an opportunity for allyship and solidarity. Opening up conversations across difference could allow for real change to such a system and the inequities that exist within it. <\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n
