In this clip, a Black woman shares openly and self-reflectively how she has internalized some biases and her honest struggle to acknowledge and reframe that mentality. She describes how, as a transracial adoptee, she has observed how the system is built in a way that places people of color and Black people in situations in which they need more assistance or can’t support families. Being exposed to that system has made her buy into the idea that poor Black people need help to succeed or survive and that middle class Black people are outliers. In Interrupting Privilege, she has an opportunity to broaden her perspective and challenge those mentalities. She and her dialogue partner unpack those ideas together and talk about how it is a privilege to have those ideas challenged and to engage in self-reflection in a safe space like Interrupting Privilege. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
