In this clip, two dialogue partners grapple with what it looks like to interrupt intersectional racism and who is responsible for speaking about it. Ideally, they agree that they’d like everyone to speak on intersectional racism, yet they recognize the reality that Black women are often the ones leading the conversation or, more likely, the only ones leading it. Ultimately, despite the fact that racism occurs everywhere and often, for non-Black people it is a choice to get involved in interrupting it; a choice not everyone makes.
You’d want it to be everyone’s responsibility but that’s not the reality because there’s a lot of people who’d rather go about their day and not think about racism but it’s happening all around them.
