In this clip, listen as mother and son discuss the range of different Black lived experiences in the U.S. They describe how Black America isn’t a monolith and that it is important to not only be aware of but learn about different Black experiences such as Caribbean and African and Afro-Latino. He gives the example of how within the Black Student Union at his school was divided into different affinity groups.

I think we’re all Black American but it’s important to appreciate that they have a lived experiences and family traditions that I wouldn’t claim as my own
